5rhythms heaven & hell with kathy altman

Why do some days flow so easily while others are a monumental effort?  Where do we cross the line from solid, healthy boundaries to outright rigidity?  Why does the unknown sometimes fill us with the awe of mystery and at other times bring sheer terror?

Most of us spend our lives seeking what we imagine will finally make us feel good forever, and running like hell from everything that makes us uncomfortable. The real value of our 5Rhythms practice is to learn how to be open, available, and perhaps even playful as we get knocked off kilter or kicked out of our comfort zone.  Finding and sustaining our presence, no matter what we feel or what goes on around us, is the dance that will reverberate long after the workshop ends.

about kathy:

kathy

While highly trained in many forms of dance, it wasn't until Kathy's catalytic meeting with Gabrielle 30 years ago that her true calling found her.  As Co-Director of The Moving Center School, Kathy was the first person asked to help Gabrielle bring her work out into the world.  Over the past 20 years Kathy's teaching has brought thousands of people back to the joy of their own, original movement.  Using dance as the medium, Kathy illuminates for her students "as on the dance floor, so in life."  She is devoted to inspiring people to live the teachings of presence, patience and practice long after the music ends.

As a visual artist, Kathy seamlessly coaches people (artists and "art-phobes" alike) to express themselves right from the movement of the dance into the creation of astonishing living art forms, such as altars, prayer vessels, personal tankas and body castings.

Kathy's teaching experience also includes 15 years as Director of Education and Training for Planned Parenthood, where she developed programs for physicians, nurses, counselors, teachers and clergy.  She wrote state-wide curriculum on family health and sexuality that was implemented into the California school system, and was a consultant to the California State Department of Health for over a decade.
